PROBLEM:  What drivers are available for the 3Com EtherLink 10 PCI 
          (3C900 series), Fast EtherLink 10/100 PCI (3C905 series) and
          Fast EtherLink Server NIC (3C980 series)?


NOTE:     This driver package is to be installed on:

          SCO OpenServer 5.0.0: 
             Release Supplement 5.0.0d (rs500d)
             Networking Supplement 1.0.0 (net100)
             SCO Advanced Hardware Supplement (AHS) 5.2 

             In this order.

          SCO OpenServer 5.0.2:

             (available on 5.0.2 CD media)

          SCO Internet FastStart Release 1.0.0, 1.1.0

          Supplements are downloadable from ftp.sco.com in the Supplements
          directory.
          You may install the 'Network' portion of SCO AHS 5.2 or just the 
          Network Configuration Manager portion to obtain the minimal necessary
          networking software to configure this driver.

          To install these drivers, take the following steps: 

          - Log in as root.

          - Install SCO AHS Release 5.2 if not already installed.
          For SCO OpenServer 5.0.0 and 5.0.2 only.

          - Download the volume image(s) to your machine to a directory, 
          for example, /tmp/vol.

          - Run 'custom' and select 'Install New'.  Install from your host 
          machine using 'Media Images'.

          - Give the directory name where the volume images have been 
          downloaded, for example, /tmp/vol.

          - Complete the installation and exit custom.

          - Install the network adapter hardware into your computer.

          - Run 'netconfig' and configure the new adapter.


WARNING:  If you get the error message:
          "The custom+ binary (backend) process has died."

          The death of custom+ leaves a partially installed 3Com
          EtherLink XL PCI (3C900) 3Com FastEtherLink XL PCI (3C905)
          driver.  Remove this driver from the system.

          Next, you must remove the original 3Com driver from the 
          system before you will be able to install the new one.

          Double click (expand) "SCO OpenServer Enterprise System",
          next expand "SCO OpenServer Enterprise System Connectivity", 
          next expand "SCO OpenServer Enterprise System Network Drivers".
          Now select "3Com EtherLink XL PCI (3C900) 3Com Fast Eth..." 
          and remove it by selecting "Remove Software..." from the 
          Software menu.  A screen will appear prompting to Rollback 
          patches.  Select to do this.  Now install the new driver 
          according to the instructions above.

          Replace the word "Enterprise" above with "Desktop" for desktop
          systems.
