Touch Typing for Beginners, Version 2.01

When operating Touch Typing for Beginners, Version 2.01, please
note the following conditions.

      CONFIG.SYS file --

When setting up your CONFIG.SYS file, make sure the
number of files is set to at least 20 files. Refer to
           your DOS manual for assistance.

                 Example: FILES=20

Running as Teacher on a Network --

When running a network version of Touch Typing as a
teacher, the following sequence of events occurs. After
the title screen, the program's user list is synchronized
with the ICLAS user list. Then, if new student records
are available, they will be collected into a common file.
These records are generated as students complete
activities, or teachers make changes from Teacher Options
Menu. They are collected into a common file so the
teacher can review student progress. The message on the
screen displays a running total of the number of student
           records processed.

If students are working in a class that the teacher wants
to access, the students' work will be interrupted while
the files are being processed. During the interruption,
files containing data generated by the students are
collected into a common file. Therefore, a teacher
should avoid running the program, as a teacher, in any
class where students are currently working. (The same is
true when setting bookmarks from ICLAS) However, any
inactive class can be accessed with no interruption to
           any operating classes.

Note: It is recommended that the teacher runs the
product often (at least weekly). By doing so, the
processing time is reduced considerably, and consequently
           the interrupts will be shorter.

Teachers and students must both exit Touch Typing before
any new information is processed. Doing this will cause
any options changes or assignments made by the teacher to
become effective during the next student session.

Running as Teacher on a Standalone Machine --

A teacher password is required by Touch Typing. It is
possible to delete the teacher password. If you delete
the password, the next time you try to enter Touch Typing
as a teacher the program will require you to enter the
documented back-door password. See the Touch Typing
           Teacher's Guide for information.

      Content Editor --

When editing text in "Words Per Minute Drill", the
Content Editor will automatically move text to the next
line when the current line is full. Additionally, at the
end of the final sentence on a page, the Content Editor
will add two spaces after the final period.

     Hardware Information --

When operating Touch Typing for Beginners, Version 2.01
on a PS/2 Model 25, some of the games will not allow the
user to achieve more than 60 WPM due to the performance
           of the computer.

CHANGES AND MODIFICATION

This file contains notices concerning changes or updates made to
the Touch Typing for Beginners Version 2.01 product.

03/18/92- Change List:
----------------------
This section is a record of the bug fixes and improved program
features that have been made in Touch Typing for Beginners Version
2.00 and have been included in version 2.01.

    Bug Fixes in Version 2.01:
    ==========================
Creatation of package. All errors reported from users have
    been corrected.

    1. Print Screen problems have been fixed.

    2. Error 103 has been eliminated.

    3. The last student entry in the 'View User List Report' panel of
        Teacher Options is now visible.

    4. Due to the improved program features listed below, it is now
impossible to get a 14200 or 60000 error caused by updating and
deleting students from both the ICLAS and Touch Typing student
        lists.

    5. 'Diving Elephant' memory requirement has been increased. This
corrects error 50151 that appeared at the end of the activity.

    6. The horizontal scroll bar in 'View User Report' of Teacher
        Options is fixed.

    7. The bookmark setting for the last student with an ID less than
five characters in length has been fixed.

    8. The strange character that occasionally appeared in 'Review'
        has been eliminated.

    9. Program failure to accept a correctly typed first word in
seven of the eleven games has been fixed.

   10. Additional errors that have not been reported by customers
have been found and corrected by the development team during work
        on Touch Typing Version 2.01.

    Improved Program Features:
    ==========================

    1. The time required to process student records when running as a
teacher has been decreased to 1/3 of the former processing time.

    2. The student list is automatically coordinated with the ICLAS
student list when running on a network under ICLAS. Also, the
'Edit User List' menu selection is now disabled when running
        Teacher Options on a network.

    3. Various DOS (operating system) and hardware resources are
checked at program start-up to verify that enough of the
particular resources are available. The following areas are
        checked:

       Memory:
A memory check verifies that there is enough free memory
for the largest activity in Touch Typing before the
program allows the user to access activities. If there
is not enough memory, the user is informed by a warning
             banner.

       File Handles:
The maximum number of file handles simultaneously used by
Touch Typing is verified at start-up. If there are not
enough file handles, an error message is posted and the
             program is terminated.

       Video Mode Capability:
Video support is checked to insure that the graphics mode
required by Touch Typing is available. If the video mode
is not available, a suitable error message is posted, and
             the program is terminated.

    4. Panels with scrolling lists keep the currently selected entry
highlighted even after you enter a sub-panel. This eliminates the
highlight bar from going to the top of the list each time.

    5. Option information modified by Teacher Options is written to
        disk only when necessary.

    6. Actions in Teacher Options that take a great deal of time to
complete (writing to disk, etc.) now prevent the user from
clicking the mouse until processing is complete.

    7. Teacher Options user progress reports now have a header
printed on each page of the report.

    8. The ubiquitous 60000 error is now divided into a range of
errors from 13001-13090. You should note that the last two digits
correspond to the DOS extended error that can be found in DOS
        reference manuals.

    9. A number of other commonly occurring errors (14200, 14256,
etc) now report a possible DOS error because many of these errors
are caused at the DOS level.

   10. Modifications have been made in the phrasing of error
messages presented to the user in the event of a program error.
The new wording directs the user to consult Appendix A of the
Touch Typing Teacher's Guide. The updated Appendix A gives users
a series of steps to follow to correct the problem on their own.
The version 2.00 approach was to display a message to 'contact
your IBM representative.' Version 2.01 instructs the user to
contact their IBM representative after having tried the prescribed
        corrective actions.
