ConfigSafe v2.00.06 ----------------------- A minor date display correction has been incorporated into v2.00.06 to prevent the incorrect display of year 2000 dates (when a 2-character date display is selected) in the Snapshot description. ConfigSafe v2.00.05 ----------------------- Changes have been incorporated to facilitate software download and purchase key security in v2.00.05. ConfigSafe v2.00.04 ------------------- Under certain circumstances, file change information was not being correctly displayed in Report. This has been corrected in version 2.00.04. An additional directory filter has been added to Systems Assets to eliminate certain non-essential file tracking. The filter option can be set in the CFGSAFE.INI file. The display has been updated to handle internationalization anomalies. NT systems that are part of a domain or are a domain controller now have the option of not restoring SAM and security. This option can be set in the CFGSAFE.INI file. ConfigSafe v2.00.03 ------------------- An SOS feature for NT systems with FAT file systems has been included in this release. SOS will not currently work on NTFS. The Preload Manager can customize and manage the ConfigSafe Profiles (one for Windows 95/98 environments and one for Windows NT environments). ConfigSafe Preload Client will automatically detect the operating system platform and install the appropriate version of the ConfigSafe Preload Client software. If a ConfigSafe Preload Manager is installed on the Network, the ConfigSafe Preload Client will use the Profile that had been customized by the ConfigSafe Preload Manager. ConfigSafe Preload Client 2.0 also includes a new feature called Asset Tracking and Restore. Through Profile Management, files to be tracked and optionally archived can be specified by directory or wildcard path. For example: An asset pattern of c:\Windows\*.sys would track all files with the extension .sys in the Windows folder of the C drive. Installing ConfigSafe: Run INSTALL.exe from the ConfigSafe installation disk or the vendor supplied CD ROM. Follow the On-Screen instruction to complete the installation. Press just one button and you'll have access to all the changes which have been made to your: - Configuration Files- (system.ini, etc.) - Registry - System Hardware - Drives, memory, processor, and more - Directories - System Assets - Network Connections Selecting the Time Frame ------------------------ On the main screen you select the time period for which you wish to identify configuration changes. ConfigSafe will show you the changes made to the system in that time period. Changes Starting: Beginning of the time period Changes Ending: End of the time period. Viewing the Changes for Different Information --------------------------------------------- The toolbar at the top left corner of the ConfigSafe main screen allows you to select which information you wish to view: - Configuration File Changes - System Changes - Drive and Network Connection Changes - Directory Changes (updates to files in directories) - Registry Changes - System Asset Changes Understanding the Changes Listed on the Screen ---------------------------------------------- As you view the files, registry, or directories screen, the differences in the items between the dates in the from and to boxes are displayed using the following keys: (+) New Entries Entries that have been added are shown in blue and marked with a plus sign (+). (-) Deleted Entries Entries that have been deleted are displayed in red and marked with a minus sign(-). (->)Changed Entries Entries that have changed are shown in green and both the original entry and the new entry are displayed. The original entry is shown first, RESTORING YOUR SYSTEM ConfigSafe lets you restore your system files and Registry to a previously working system configuration. In seconds, ConfigSafe restores you to a working configuration. To do so, select the RESTORE button on the ConfigSafe main screen. Then, follow the instructions to restore your system to how it was on the specified date. If your Windows 95/98 system won't boot into Windows, use the ConfigSafe SOS.exe program to Restore from MS-DOS mode. If your Windows NT system fails to boot, use the Emergency Repair Disks (which should be created during NT installation or using the NT Repair Disk Program). On disk 2 of the Emergency Repair Disks you have the option to restore the registry to the original settings, do so. Then reboot the system and run ConfigSafe to restore to the desired configuration.
