This directory contains "promo" or "demo" software provided by OEMs intended as
a demonstration of a particular computer, to be run on said computer.  These
were commonly used as non-interactive promotional running store displays to
attract customers, or as interactive "welcome to your new computer" tutorials
from the manufacturer.  Demo software usually had no practical purpose other
than teaching the user about the features of the computer, such as what certain
keys do, teach common operating system commands the user will need to know,
sample sessions of different software they could run, or show off the graphics
and sound capabilities of the system.

To get the best use out of this demonstration software, you should try to
execute it as the manufacturer intended, which means:

- Only execute it on the system it was designed to demonstrate.

- Software should be unzipped/unpacked onto and run from floppy disk if it was
  originally distributed that way, as some demo disks freak out if run on a
  very fast media device (or an emulator, or a system they weren't programmed
  to demonstrate).

- IBM PC floppy disk images (with extensions of IMA, IMG, 160, 180, 320, 360,
  IMD, or RAW) should be written to a floppy disk using an image writer such as
  IMG2DSK, DSKIMAGE, RAWRITE, or ImageDisk.  Do not simply copy a disk image to
  a formatted floppy with the COPY command, as that will not work.

Troubleshooting:  Some IBM PC bootable disks have no DOS filesystem, so if you
try to DIR them after writing them to disk, you may get an error.  Also, some
IBM PC bootable disks appear to have a DOS filesystem, but no executable (.COM
or .EXE) to run.  Both conditions are normal; boot the computer using the
diskette you wrote and it should work anyway.

From Alex Lee: "Apple commisioned Tom Lichty and Tom Crosely to produce a sales
demo for the then brand-new Apple IIGS that would showcase it's capabilities in
its own unique way.

The demo comes on two disks and can be run from a single drive system or with
two 3.5" floppy drives attached. The program will boot and then stop loading at
a black screen. At that point, if you have a single disk drive, you'll need to
eject the first disk, replace it with the second disk and hit return to
continue.

There are some instructions on how the program can be installed to a larger
ProDOS volume included in the .zip, but I haven't tested this myself, nor do I
know which versions of ProDOS or GS/OS it could run under. The program itself
boots from an experimental version of ProDOS 8, so compatibility issues with
newer operating systems is probably likely."
