Question: Why do I get a "Modem in Use" message when trying to use my modem?
Answer: This problem is commonly due to SystemSoft's Card Wizard, a third-party card and socket services software bundled with some laptop computers. This software conflicts with Windows Plug and Play and creates a generic driver instead of using the laptop manufacturers' drivers.
To fix this problem, run Fixit. Fixit.exe is located on your TDK supplied diskette or is downloadable from our web site:
http://www.tdksystems.com/naspt/prodspt/pcdf3000or.htm
If you are unable to run Fixit.exe, follow the manual method below.
1. Go to Start menu | Settings | Control Panel | Modems. Highlight TDK modem (when it is installed with a generic driver, the modem is usually listed as DF+model number, e.g., DF3000) and click Remove button.
2. Go to Start menu | Programs | Windows Explorer. Go to View menu | Options. Click on Show all files | Apply button | OK.
3. In left-hand pane of Windows Explorer, double click on Windows folder | Inf folder | Other folder. Look for a file that has stdk in it. Delete it. Look in Windows | Inf folder for a file that starts with stdk. Delete it.
4. Scroll up to the top of Windows Explorer. Put TDK installation floppy disk into the A drive. Double click on 3 1/2 floppy. Highlight and copy TDK driver (CyberExpress 3000 = mdm3000.inf; DFV 3400 = mdmtdk.inf; DFL 341x = mdmgn.inf; CyberExpress 5600 = tdk5600.inf; Global Freedom 5660 = tdk5660.inf).
5. Take the modem out of your computer and put it back in again. You should get a New Hardware Found message.
6. Go to Control Panel | Modems. The modem should now be listed as TDK + Model Name and Number, e.g., TDK CyberExpress 3000.
